As one of the oldest galas in Palm Beach County, the Bethesda Ball celebrated its 60th anniversary this year with Bethesda’s Diamond Anniversary Ball on March 7 at The Breakers in Palm Beach. With over 400 guests in attendance, the glamorous black-tie evening sparkled with crystals and candleight adorning the room. Guests were treated to a delicious dinner, dancing, live entertainment, and an auction.
The Bethesda Ball was founded in 1955 by a group of community volunteers to help raise the necessary funds to build Bethesda Memorial Hospital. It was 4 years later that they broke ground and Bethesda was born!
Longtime Bethesda supporters and members of the Foundation Board of Trustees’ Mary and Peter Blum served as the Chairmen for the event. “We were pleased to chair this historic event in support of our community hospital”, said Mary Blum, “and we were thrilled to honor former hospital CEOs’ Robert Hill and his wife Carrie; and Russell Clayton and his wife, Ginger.”

This year’s ball had guests flashing back to the 60’s with The Nowhere Band, a nationally recognized Beatles tribute band. Another highlight to the evening was the “Diamond Raffle.” A stunning 4.41 Carat European-Cut diamond solitaire was raffled off to one lucky winner who will work with Private Jewelers of Delray Beach to design a beautiful custom piece of jewelry!

The Foundation along with family and friends paid special tribute to longtime title sponsor, the late Lady Sheila Germain. Additional sponsors included Mr. and Mrs. Peter Blum, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Burns, BB&T, Kidz Medical Services, Dr. and Mrs. George Mueller, Dr. and Mrs. Steven Milstein, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Garard Jr., Hospital Physician Partners, NuVista Living at Wellington Green and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Otto.
Over $1 million was raised at this landmark event. This year’s proceeds will benefit Bethesda’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where over 300 critically ill babies will start their lives. With the community’s support, Bethesda plans to renovate and update the Level III NICU with the latest technology, a centralized monitoring system and new equipment to continue to be the most comprehensive NICU in Palm Beach County.
